Queensland food businesses fall under one of the five different food industry sectors: Hospitality, Retail, Food Processing, Health & Community, or Transport & Distribution.

Below is a list of the Queensland food industry sectors, including their Units of Competency:

Hospitality: Suitable if you work in a hotel, restaurant, bar, pub or cafe

  • SITXFSA005 - Use hygienic practices for food safety

  • SITXFSA006 - Participate in safe food handling practices

Retail: Suitable if you work in catering, a supermarket, a deli, grocer, convenience store, service station, take-away store or market stall

  • SIRRFSA001 - Handle food safely in a retail environment

Food Processing: Suitable if you work in airline catering, a bakery, cannery or food manufacturing business

  • FBPFSY1002 - Follow work procedures to maintain food safety

  • FBPFSY2002 - Apply food safety procedures

Health & Community: Suitable if you work in a hospital, aged care or childcare facility

  • HLTFSE001 - Follow basic food safety practice

  • HLTFSE005 - Apply and monitor food safety requirements

  • HLTFSE007 - Oversee the day-to-day implementation of food safety in the workplace

Transport & Distribution: Suitable if you deliver food or work in a food storage facility

  • SITXFSA005 - Use hygienic practices for food safety

  • SITXFSA006 - Participate in safe food handling practices

Before beginning any Food Safety Supervisor training, it’s a good idea to contact your local council or state government to find out which Units of Competency you need to complete, in order to be qualified to work as a Food Safety Supervisor.
