The Units of Competency for each food sector are outlined below, as well as some examples of the types of food businesses which fall into each food industry sector:

Hospitality: Suitable if you work in a hotel, restaurant, bar, pub or cafe

  • SITXFSA005 - Use hygienic practices for food safety

  • SITXFSA006 - Participate in safe food handling practices

Retail: Suitable if you work in catering, a supermarket, a deli, grocer, convenience store, service station, take-away store or market stall

  • SIRRFSA001 - Handle food safely in a retail environment

Health & Community: Suitable if you work in a hospital, aged care or childcare facility

  • HLTFSE001 - Follow basic food safety practice

  • HLTFSE005 - Apply and monitor food safety requirements

  • HLTFSE007 - Oversee the day-to-day implementation of food safety in the workplace

Before beginning any Food Safety Supervisor training, it’s a good idea to contact your local council or state government to find out which Units of Competency you need to complete, in order to be qualified to work as a Food Safety Supervisor.
